Prosecutors say a Round Lake Beach man stabbed his friend multiple times during an altercation that escalated in Round Lake Beach last week.
Jerben Hernandez-Rodriguez, 31, of Round Lake Beach, was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a Class 3 felony.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Kelse Banks said the victim, who is a friend of Hernandez-Rodriguez, went to Hernandez-Rodriguez’s house in Round Lake Beach.
The two reportedly got into a verbal argument and it escalated to a physical altercation.
Hernandez-Rodriguez grabbed a kitchen knife and began stabbing the victim, Banks said.
Officers observed visible wounds on the victim consistent with a knife attack.
The victim had cuts on his forearm, hand, head and ear, Banks said during a bond hearing.
Officers recovered a 6-7 inch kitchen steak knife that was believed to have been used in the incident.
The incident happened on Thursday and officers with the Round Lake Beach Police Department took Hernandez-Rodriguez into custody.
Assistant Public Defender Emily Halter asked the court to impose a low cash bond because it is Hernandez-Rodriguez’s first criminal offense.
Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Hernandez-Rodriguez held on a $200,000 bond.
Potkonjak also ordered Hernandez-Rodriguez not to possess any dangerous weapons and not to have any contact with the victim or his residence.
Hernandez-Rodriguez remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $20,000 cash in order to be released.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 12.
