A man riding on a skateboard was seriously injured after he veered into traffic and was hit by an SUV on Route 134 in Round Lake on Friday, police said.
The Round Lake Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 10 p.m. Friday to Route 134 and Hart Road in Round Lake for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Round Lake Police Chief David Prus told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the collision occurred just east of the intersection.
Two independent witnesses told police a man was riding on a skateboard in the center median, Prus said.
The 35-year-old man, who was traveling eastbound on Route 134, veered into the eastbound lanes of traffic, Prus said.
He was struck by a single vehicle, a Dodge Durango, and officers found him face down on the roadway.
Paramedics transported the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Prus said the victim had survived but sustained serious injuries. His condition was not known.
Due to the severity of the incident, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was requested to the scene.
Route 134 was shut down between Goodnow Boulevard and Hart Road for several hours.
No charges have been filed and no citations have been issued due to the pending MCAT investigation, Prus said.
The incident remains under investigation by MCAT and the Round Lake Police Department.
