Two men and a woman have been arrested after sheriff’s officials say a 7-year-old child was battered and unlawfully restrained near McHenry, leaving them hospitalized.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said they were contacted by a representative of Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry for a report of child abuse involving a 7-year-old child.
The sheriff’s office responded to the hospital and launched an investigation.
As a result of the investigation, the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Hal Eltherington, 63; Gregory Eltherington, 31; and Kristen Eltherington, 34.
All three reside in the 4800 block of Howard Street in unincorporated McHenry.
Criminal complaints filed in McHenry County Circuit Court allege Kristen Eltherington and Hal Eltherington battered the 7-year-old by striking them on August 14.
All three Eltheringtons also allegedly detained the child without legal authority, the complaints added.
The sheriff’s office did not provide further details on the incident.
Arrest warrants were issued and all three surrendered themselves to the McHenry County Jail on Monday.
All three were charged with unlawful restraint, a Class 4 felony.
Hal Eltherington and Kristen Eltherington were additionally charged with aggravated battery of a child, a Class 3 felony.
All three have been released from the McHenry County Jail after posting bond.
Details regarding future court dates for the three defendants were not immediately available.
