A Marengo man was arrested after he allegedly fled from police during a traffic stop and ran multiple stop signs while fleeing in Crystal Lake.

Terrance M. Kampas, 33, of the 600 block of Courtney Lane in Marengo, was charged with aggravated fleeing to elude, attempting to elude a police officer, squealing tires, disregarding a stop sign, driving without valid registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper turn signal and disregarding a stop sign.

Court documents show officers with the Crystal Lake Police Department stopped a 2007 Mitsubishi Galant around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Officers stopped Kampas’s vehicle eastbound on Route 14 near Woodstock Street.

Kampas was driving without valid registration and had no insurance on the vehicle, court documents said.

Kampas fled from the traffic stop and drove eastbound on Route 14 and then turned onto King Street, a complaint said.

The criminal complaint said Kampas intentionally ignored two or more stop signs while fleeing from the stop.

Kampas failed to use his turn signal and squealed his tires at one point while fleeing, the complaint said.

Officers were eventually able to stop Kampas and arrest him.

Kampas has been released from the McHenry County Jail after posting 10% of his $15,000 bond.

A status of preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
