Police say two women were hospitalized after they were shot while on the porch outside of a home in Waukegan early Wednesday morning.

The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 2:05 a.m. Wednesday to the 500 block of May Street for a shooting.

Officers arrived to find two female victims who had sustained gunshot wounds, according to Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip.

The victims, one who is in her 30s and the other who is in her 40s, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The two were outside on the porch of a home when the shots were fired, Florip said.

Paramedics transported them to a local hospital where their conditions have been stabilized.

Florip said information on the suspect or suspects involved was not known.

The motive for the shooting is also unknown.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
