Mario T. Coleman, 40, of Round Lake.

A Round Lake man is facing felony charges after he allegedly pulled an officer’s arm through a jail cell while being held at the Libertyville Police Department for an assault.

Mario T. Coleman, 40, of Round Lake, was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated assault on a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Francis DeRosa said officers responded to a call of an aggravated assault with a knife in Libertyville on Sunday.

Officers found Coleman with a knife in his waistband. Officers tried to arrest him but he resisted them.

Once Coleman was transported to the Libertyville Police Department, officers had to put him into a holding cell because he would not calm down, DeRosa said.

Officers tried explaining to Coleman that he was only facing misdemeanor charges at that point.

An officer was talking to Coleman when the man grabbed the officer’s arm and pulled it through the open food slot, DeRosa said.

The officer had a mark on his arm but did not require medical assistance.

Court records show Coleman has six other criminal cases pending in Lake County Circuit Court, which include violation of an order of protection, trespassing, disorderly conduct, theft and assault.

Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Coleman held on a $200,000 umbrella bond for all of his cases.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 2.
