A 38-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries after he was hit by a car while walking in the roadway on Delany Road in Gurnee Friday morning, police said.

The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 8:46 a.m. Friday to the intersection of Route 41 and Delany Road.

Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said officers received a call for an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Officers arrived and learned a black 2015 Honda Accord hit a pedestrian walking in the roadway.

The pedestrian, a 38-year-old man, was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center with serious injuries, Gaylor said.

The driver of the Honda did not have any reported injuries.

Investigators with the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to the scene and assisted with the crash investigation.

Delany Road between Route 41 and Grove Avenue was closed in both directions during the investigation.

No citations have been issued and no charges have been filed, Gaylor said.

This crash remains under investigation by MCAT and the Gurnee Police Department.
