School officials and police are investigating after a bullet was found on a classroom floor at Marengo High School Friday morning.

Marengo School District 154 Superintendent David Engelbrecht sent a letter to parents regarding the incident.

Engelbrecht said the bullet was found in a classroom on the floor and an investigation was launched.

Every student in the classroom was interviewed and all of their lockers were searched.

School administration learned that multiple students saw the bullet on the floor during class but told no one.

“This is a perfect opportunity to have a discussion with your student about this situation, regarding the importance of immediately alerting staff in situations like this,” Engelbrecht said.

“Please stress the importance of prompt information and how it can help administration and authorities,” he added.

The school said they are working closely with the Marengo Police Department and at this time there is no evidence of a threat to students, staff or the public.

Police were at the school Friday and there will be added security protocols in place, Engelbrecht said.

“Marengo Community High School takes situations like this very seriously. [We] would like to thank the Marengo Police Department for their swift assistance in situations like these and their continued service to MCHS and the community,” he said in the letter.

The Marengo Police Department said in a statement that they continue to “stay committed to maintaining a safe learning environment as well as a safe community.”

Extra patrols are in place and anyone with additional information on the incident is asked to contact the school or the police department.

The police department said students should say something if they see something. “… if you see something out of place or you think something is wrong, please let someone know.”
