A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was shot in the head Saturday evening in North Chicago on the border of Waukegan, officials said.

The North Chicago Police Department and North Chicago Fire Department responded around 7:20 p.m. Saturday to the area of 10th Street and Adams Street in North Chicago.

A 911 call was made for a report of a shooting in the area.

Officers arrived to find a juvenile victim who had a gunshot wound to the head, according to a spokesperson for the City of North Chicago.

The bullet struck the 14-year-old boy on the top of his head.

Paramedics transported him to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.

He was then later transferred to Ann and Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago for additional treatment, the spokesperson said.

Lake County Major Crime Task Force Spokesman Christopher Covelli told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the Major Crime Task Force sent evidence technicians to the scene.

North Chicago police detectives remained at the scene for several hours investigating the shooting.

The crime scene appeared to be in an alley south of 10th Street.

It is unknown if anyone has been charged in connection with the shooting.
