Five people were hospitalized, two in critical condition, after an SUV crossed over into oncoming lanes on Rollins Road in Round Lake Beach and struck another SUV head-on, police said.

The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Beach Police Department responded around 12:30 p.m. Monday to the area of the Great Clips, 528 East Rollins Road in Round Lake Beach.

Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Ryan Rodriguez said the collision involved two Toyota RAV4 SUVs.

One of the Toyotas, driven by a 54-year-old woman from Fox Lake, was traveling eastbound on Rollins Road when it crossed the center lane.

The Toyota struck the second Toyota head-on, resulting in multiple people being injured.

There were two occupants, including a 74-year-old Fox Lake man, in the eastbound Toyota. Three occupants were in the westbound Toyota, Rodriguez said.

The westbound Toyota was driven by a 20-year-old Ingleside man. Its passengers included a 7-year-old from Ingleside and a 19-year-old from Chicago.

The five victims were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.

Rodriguez said both occupants in the eastbound Toyota were listed in critical condition at the hospital.

The three occupants in the westbound Toyota have been stabilized. The extent of their injuries was not known.

According to emergency radio traffic from the incident, one of the victims was unconscious following the crash.

Rollins Road between Civic Center Way and East End Drive remains shut down Monday afternoon due to the crash investigation.

Rodriguez said the incident remains under investigation by the Round Lake Beach Police Department.
