A LifeNet helicopter flew a critically-injured man to the hospital after he crashed his car into multiple parked cars and hit a tree in Wonder Lake Saturday evening.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Wonder Lake Fire Protection District responded around 9:55 p.m. Saturday to the 4500 block of East Lake Shore Drive in Wonder Lake for a vehicle crash.

A sedan was traveling on Lake Shore Drive when it left the road and hit three parked cars, according to Wonder Lake Fire Chief Mike Weber.

The 2004 Mitsubishi sedan also struck several mailboxes and came to a rest after it hit a tree head-on.

Weber said a 911 caller reported that the vehicle had possibly also struck the home but crews confirmed no buildings were hit.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said the driver, a 47-year-old Wonder Lake man, was driving under the influence.

An ambulance transported the man to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.

The male victim was then transferred to a LifeNet helicopter, which flew the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Sheriff’s deputies were seen conducting an accident investigation at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said the driver was charged with driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
