A motorcyclist, who witnesses say was traveling at a high rate of speed, was killed after he crashed into an SUV and was ejected before being run over by a semi-truck on Route 41 near Lake Bluff.
The Lake Forest Fire Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1 p.m. Tuesday to Route 41 north of Route 176 in unincorporated Lake Bluff for a motorcycle crash with injuries.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a motorcyclist deceased at the scene, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
A preliminary investigation shows a Suzuki motorcycle, driven by a 31-year-old Great Lakes man, was traveling northbound on Route 41.
Traffic in front of the motorcycle began to slow and the operator of the motorcycle was unable to slow down in time.
The motorcycle struck the rear of a Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 40-year-old Lake Bluff woman.
The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown forward from the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist slid underneath a trailer being pulled by a Peterbilt Semi, driven by a 59-year-old Mundelein man.
The Peterbilt was traveling in front of the Chevrolet and the motorcyclist was run over by the wheels of the trailer.
The drivers of the Chevrolet and Peterbilt were uninjured.
Witnesses reported the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash, Covelli said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy is being scheduled.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
