Police say an initial report of shots fired at passing vehicles turned out to be someone throwing or slingshotting rocks, which damaged several vehicles on the border of Lake County and Kenosha County.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department responded around 1:06 p.m. Tuesday to an area west of State Line Road and 136th Avenue, which is south of Bristol and northeast of Antioch.
Public records show the farm property where the incident occurred in front of is owned by Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and his wife.
The sheriff’s department said they received reports that several vehicles had sustained damage while driving in the area.
Initial reports were that someone may have been shooting a firearm at vehicles driving by.
Deputies conducted an investigation and determined that the vehicles had not been shot by a gun.
It was determined the vehicles had possibly been struck by rocks that were either thrown or launched from a slingshot, the sheriff’s department said.
One of the vehicles involved had its rear passenger side window shattered while they were driving westbound on State Line Road.
A quarter-sized rock was located inside the vehicle and it is believed that is what broke the window.
Other vehicles had large dents on the passenger sides, the sheriff’s department said.
None of the vehicle operators or passengers were injured during the incident.
Deputies searched the surrounding areas for suspects but were not able to locate anyone.
The Kenosha Sheriff’s Department said they take situations involving reckless behavior seriously and they will be adding extra patrols to this stretch of roadway and other surrounding areas.
Anyone with information regarding the incident or something similar is asked to report it to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department at 262-605-5100.
