A McHenry man has been arrested after he allegedly groomed a child online, met up with her and sexually abused her in McHenry, court documents show.
Christopher A. Shrewsbury, 26, a transient of McHenry, was charged with indecent solicitation, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and grooming.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Shrewsbury used an electronic device to solicit, lure or entice a child.
Shrewsbury allegedly asked the girl to show him her naked, the complaint said.
The complaint said Shrewsbury asked to “touch and kiss” her “naked body parts.”
Shrewsbury sexually abused the child, who is under the age of 13, in McHenry early in the morning on June 3, the complaint said.
The McHenry Police Department investigated the case and prosecutors approved the felony charges in September, court records show.
An arrest warrant was issued and Shrewsbury was arrested late last week.
He was transported to the McHenry County Jail where a judge ordered him held on a $95,000 bond.
Shrewsbury, who remains held, would need to post $9,500 cash in order to be released.
A bond hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 4.
Court records show Shrewsbury was on probation at the time of the alleged sex offense.
He pleaded guilty to aggravated battery causing great bodily harm in November 2021 for attacking another man, causing the victim to suffer a brain injury, in McHenry in December 2019.
He was sentenced to 90 days in jail and two years of probation for that case. Prosecutors have since filed a petition to revoke his probation.
