A woman in her 30s was hospitalized after she was shot while sitting in a parked car on Belvidere Road in Waukegan Friday evening, police said.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 8 p.m. Friday to the 400 block of Belvidere Road for a shooting.

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that officers arrived and learned one victim had been shot.

The victim, a Waukegan woman in her 30s, self-transported to an area hospital before officers arrived.

The woman was sitting in a parked car on Belvidere Road when shots were fired into the vehicle, Florip said.

Florip said the victim was shot once and her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

No suspect information was available for release and no one is in custody, Florip added.

Police shut down Belvidere Road in both directions from McAlister Avenue to Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue while investigating the shooting.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
