A Wonder Lake man was released on bond after being charged with reproducing and possessing child pornography following a police investigation.
James N. Nicholas, 62, of the 6700 block of Giant Oaks Road in Wonder Lake, was charged with 10 counts of child pornography, ranging from Class X to Class 3 felonies.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said investigators found at least 10 different images of material in Nicholas’ possession.
The complaint said the images showed children, who were mostly under the age of 13, that were unclothed and in a lewd exhibition.
Four of the charges against Nicholas allege that he reproduced child pornography.
Those four charges are Class X felonies, the most serious felony besides murder. They carry a six to 30-year sentence in prison.
The offenses date back to at least June 2019, the complaint said.
The case was investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and a warrant was issued for Nicholas on September 26.
Nicholas was arrested and transported to the McHenry County Jail.
He was ordered held on a $100,000 bond. Nicholas was released from jail last week after posting $10,000 cash.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 14.
