Two victims were hospitalized with serious injuries after being attacked and robbed at gunpoint following a party at a residence near Round Lake Sunday morning, police said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 12:30 a.m. Sunday to a report of a robbery in the 24500 block of West Forest Avenue in unincorporated Round Lake.
A preliminary investigation shows two men exited a residence on the block following a party, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
The 23-year-old Round Lake man and 20-year-old Round Lake Beach man were approached by a suspect.
The male suspect, whose description is unknown at this time, was armed with a pistol, Covelli said.
The suspect robbed both victims and struck them in the head with the pistol.
Both victims sustained serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment, Covelli said.
Fire department radio traffic initially indicated shots were fired.
Covelli confirmed there were conflicting reports on whether shots were fired; however, no shell casings were recovered.
Detectives are still working to determine if the suspect fired his gun, Covelli said.
The suspect fled the scene and it is unknown if he fled in a car or on foot.
Multiple parked cars down the street from the robbery were hit by a car that was fleeing the scene as deputies arrived.
Covelli said the 17-year-old driver of the fleeing car was taken into custody and interviewed by detectives.
The 17-year-old is not believed to be involved in the robbery.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.
