State police say a 50-year-old man from Waukegan died after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 in Cook County Monday morning.

The Illinois State Police responded around 9:42 a.m. Monday to Interstate 90 near mile marker 71, which is near Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Village.

The crash occurred in the westbound lanes just east of Arlington Heights Road.

District 15 troopers arrived to find a single-vehicle crash with injuries, according to a state police spokesperson.

Police radio traffic indicated the driver was in and out of consciousness.

A trooper first on the scene reported the driver did not have a pulse and that he was starting CPR on the driver.

The driver’s vehicle was believed to have struck a guardrail and another object, according to police radio traffic.

Paramedics transported the driver by ambulance to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, the spokesperson said.

The victim later died from his injuries while at the hospital.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Michael Wallace, 50, of Waukegan.

An official cause and manner of death were pending the police investigation, the medical examiner’s office said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
