
A child was flown to the hospital with serious injuries after they were hit by a car near a restaurant in Crystal Lake Monday afternoon.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and Crystal Lake Police Department responded around 3:40 p.m. Monday to Popeyes, 340 West Virginia Street in Crystal Lake, for a vehicle that struck a pedestrian.
Emergency crews arrived and found a child that was hit by a car on McHenry Avenue next to the restaurant, fire officials said.
The child suffered leg and head injuries, according to fire department radio traffic.
A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested.
Paramedics transported the child to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital where they met LifeNet crews, fire officials said.
The child was subsequently flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.
The child’s condition was not released but fire department radio traffic indicated they suffered traumatic injuries.
Fire officials were unable to release further information, citing an active police investigation.
It is unknown if police cited or arrested the driver of the vehicle.
The Crystal Lake Police Department has not yet responded to a request for comment on the incident.
