Police responded to Zion Lutheran School in Marengo Monday morning after knives were found on the playground, officials said.

The Marengo Police Department responded to Zion Lutheran School, 408 Jackson Street, after students reportedly found knives on the playground Monday morning.

The school was placed on soft lockdown, which means people could not enter or leave the building.

Officers assisted in searching school grounds and did not locate anything of further concern, the police department said.

“There is nothing at this time to indicate that there was any sort of threat or safety concern other than the existence of the items located,” the department said in a statement.

It is unknown how the knives got onto the playground or if police have identified anyone involved.
