No one is in custody after two men carjacked a Dodge Charger at gunpoint outside of a Waukegan apartment building Monday evening.
The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. Monday at the Emhurst Lake Apartments in the 1000 block of Lakehurst Drive in Waukegan.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that two subjects stole a red 2020 Dodge Charger from the driver at gunpoint in the parking lot of an apartment building.
A handgun was displayed but no one was injured, Florip said.
An Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network (ISPERN) alert was broadcasted to area police departments.
One of the suspects was described as a male black, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, thin build and wearing a black jacket.
The other suspect was also described as a male black, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, thin build and wearing a black jacket with white spots.
The vehicle was spotted by police traveling south on Route 45 from Peterson Road near Grayslake around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Florip said officers recovered the vehicle Wednesday morning in the 100 block of Baldwin Avenue in Waukegan.
The vehicle was unoccupied and no one is in custody, Florip added.
The incident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
