Sheriff’s deputies arrested a driver after clocking him driving 130 mph on Sheridan Road in Beach Park while under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.
A sheriff’s deputy was on patrol around 1:30 a.m. Sunday near Sheridan Road and Wadsworth Road in Beach Park.
The deputy observed a blue Honda sedan traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Sheridan Road, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
The deputy activated his radar and received a reading of 130 mph in a 40 mph zone.
The deputy was eventually able to catch up with the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
Covelli said that the deputy began speaking with the driver, identified as Kyle C. Kozina, 26, of the 37100 block of North Sheridan Road in Beach Park.
The deputy noticed Kozina was slurring his speech and smelled like alcohol, Covelli said.
The deputy conducted an intoxicated driver investigation and determined Kozina was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Kozina was arrested and charged with aggravated speeding, driving under the influence and reckless driving.
Kozina was released from custody on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond.
Kozina is scheduled to appear in court on November 30.
