Police have shut down Route 120 in Grayslake after a crash involving a semi-truck and a car left one man dead Friday morning, fire officials said.

The Grayslake Fire Protection District and Grayslake-Hainesville Police Department responded around 5:30 a.m. Friday to the area of the Starbucks, 775 East Belvidere Road in Grayslake, for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Grayslake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Jim Weidman told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the crash involved two vehicles.

A semi-truck and a car were involved in a head-on-style crash that resulted in minor damage, Weidman said.

The crash happened just west of Ivanhoe Road on Route 120 in front of Sammie’s restaurant.

Paramedics pronounced the male driver of the car deceased at the scene, Weidman said.

There was one passenger in the car and they were uninjured. The driver of the semi-truck was also uninjured.

Officers have shut down both directions of Route 120 between Ivanhoe Road and Route 83, according to the police department.

The Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County was called to the scene to investigate the crash.

As of 9:30 a.m., the roadway remains closed while police investigate the cause of the crash.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office is in the process of scheduling an autopsy on the victim.

The Grayslake Police Department said they would release updates as they become available.

The crash remains under investigation by the Grayslake Police Department and MCAT.
