A 73-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after his Tesla and an SUV crashed in an intersection in Barrington Hills Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The Barrington Hills Police Department and Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 2:13 p.m. Friday to Route 68 and Route 59 for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Barrington Hills Police Department Public Information Officer William Walsh said the incident involved a 2020 Tesla and a 2013 Nissan Rogue.

A preliminary investigation shows the Nissan and the Tesla collided in the intersection. It is unknown which vehicle was at fault.

Walsh said the driver of the Tesla, a 73-year-old man from Barrington Hills, suffered life-threatening injuries.

Paramedics transported him to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

His current condition was not released but fire department radio traffic at the time indicated he was unconscious and not breathing at the scene.
