Authorities have identified a 30-year-old man who was killed after he was run over by a vehicle while lying down in the roadway in Beach Park.

An autopsy showed that Brian Edwards, 30, whose last known address was in Zion, died as a result of blunt force injuries consistent with a vehicle and pedestrian crash, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Beach Park Fire Department responded around 4:20 a.m. on October 30 to the intersection of Lewis Avenue and Hickory Drive in Beach Park.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said dispatchers received a 911 call for a vehicle that struck a pedestrian.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found an adult male, identified as Edwards, deceased, Covelli said.

A preliminary investigation shows a Volvo S40, driven by a 28-year-old Waukegan woman, was traveling southbound on Lewis Avenue.

Edwards was laying down in the southbound lanes of Lewis Avenue for an unknown reason, Covelli said.

The driver of the Volvo did not see the man and ran him over.

Covelli said Monday that crash investigators are still trying to determine why the man was in the roadway.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on Edwards last week.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
