Authorities say a suspect is in custody after residents were asked to remain inside their homes while police responded to a burglary in progress call in Highland Park Wednesday evening.

The City of Highland Park said in a statement around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday that police activity was occurring in the 700 block of Green Bay Road.

The Highland Park Police Department and other law enforcement agencies responded to a residence on the block for a call of an attempted burglary in progress.

Officers created a secure perimeter in the area and asked residents to remain in their homes.

City officials also asked people to avoid the area and report any suspicious behavior to the police department.

In an update around 7 p.m., the city said officers took the suspected offender into custody.

Officers were continuing to clear the perimeter with the assistance of the Northbrook and Deerfield police departments.

“The City of Highland Park appreciates the partnership of the Northbrook and Deerfield police departments in assisting with this incident response,” the city said.

The incident remains under investigation and additional details on the crime committed were not immediately available.
