A woman suffered critical injuries in a serious t-bone-style crash in North Chicago that left a second person also hospitalized, authorities said.
The North Chicago Fire Department and North Chicago Police Department responded around 6:40 a.m. Saturday to the area of Waukegan Road and Hampton Boulevard.
A spokesperson for the City of North Chicago said two vehicles were involved in a crash.
The crash involved an older-model BMW sedan and a Subaru SUV.
Both drivers were injured in the crash, the city spokesperson said.
Paramedics transported them both to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Fire officials told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that one of the drivers, a female, suffered critical injuries.
The woman was reportedly trapped inside her vehicle and firefighters had to extricate her, according to fire department radio traffic.
She was in critical condition when transported and an update on her current condition was not available.
Fire officials said the second driver who was transported to the hospital suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
A child was in the vehicle with the female driver. The child was not seriously injured.
The Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the crash.
Waukegan Road was shut down in both directions from Route 137 to Atkinson Road for several hours.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County.
