A Lindenhurst man was arrested after he allegedly struck two female juveniles in the face and then pushed one of the children down a staircase in Lindenhurst.
Diego M. Mayhone, 35, of the 500 block of Deerpath Drive in Lindenhurst, was charged with four counts of enhanced domestic battery and four counts of domestic battery.
The Lindenhurst Police Department responded on October 30 to Mayhone’s residence for a domestic battery call, court records show.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Manuel Mandujano said in bond court that officers arrived to find Mayhone reclining in a chair and visibly intoxicated with an empty bottle of alcohol nearby.
The officers learned that a juvenile family member of Mayhone gave him a hug and he then pushed her and struck her in the nose, Mandujano said.
It was unclear what may have prompted the attack.
People who were present and witnessed it stepped in.
Mayhone then pushed a second juvenile relative down a staircase consisting of approximately five steps, Mandujano said.
The second victim came back up the stairs and Mayhone punched her in the face, Mandujano said.
Both victims involved were between 12 and 15 years old. They were not seriously injured and declined treatment.
Mandujano said the incident was captured on video. The Department of Children and Family Services was notified about the incident.
Officers arrested Mayhone and transported him to the Lake County Jail.
Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Mayhone held on a $200,000 bond.
Mayhone remains held in custody and would need to post $20,000 cash in order to be released.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 1.
