Multiple armed suspects robbed victims of their cars during three separate carjacking incidents in Waukegan in recent days. In one incident, the suspects struck one of the victims.
The Waukegan Police Department responded around 9:40 p.m. Saturday to the 1700 block of North Berwick Boulevard for an aggravated vehicular hijacking.
An alert was sent out to area police departments via the Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network (ISPERN).
The alert said five suspects, who were described as males wearing black ski masks, approached the victim in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
One of the suspects displayed a handgun and the suspects stole the victim’s Mazda 3 sedan.
The second carjacking occurred around 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of Glen Flora Avenue in Waukegan, according to a separate alert.
Six offenders, described as possibly juveniles of varying races wearing masks, approached a victim and attempted to steal a Honda Accord.
The suspects were armed with a taser, gun and knife, according to the alert.
The victim was struck by one of the offenders during the encounter, Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip said.
The offenders then stole the car and fled in an unknown direction.
The victim was not seriously injured, Florip said. It was unknown if they were transported to a hospital.
Florip said no one is in custody for either incident yet.
A third carjacking occurred around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, also in the 2800 block of Glen Flora Avenue in Waukegan.
Two male offenders wearing masks displayed a handgun at a victim and stole their Buick Regal.
The Buick fled the scene eastbound on Glen Flora Avenue.
The carjackings remain under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
