A 20-year-old man is facing a misdemeanor charge after he allegedly hit and strangled his own cat, leaving the animal dead in Huntley, court records show.

Tyler J. Meade, 20, of the 11600 block of Woodcreek Drive South in Huntley, was charged with cruelty to animals, a Class A misdemeanor.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said Meade committed the offense around 4:40 a.m. on October 26 in Huntley.

Meade knowingly tormented or abused an animal by striking a cat with his hands, the complaint said.

Meade also strangled the cat, which was his pet, the complaint said.

The striking and strangling of the cat resulted in the animal’s death.

It was not known who reported the incident to police.

Officers with the Huntley Police Department investigated the case and arrested Meade on October 30.
