Alexander Sanchez, 22, of Round Lake Beach

A man underwent emergency surgery after his stepson allegedly cut him multiple times with a knife during a fight in Round Lake Beach Saturday evening, prosecutors said.

Alexander Sanchez, 22, of Round Lake Beach, was charged with two counts of aggravated domestic battery and two counts of domestic battery.

The incident occurred Saturday evening in the 1500 block of Goldenrod Terrace.

Sanchez and his stepfather were verbally arguing after coming home from a party, Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Lillian Lewis said.

The argument escalated into a physical fight outside of the home.

A witness saw that Sanchez’s stepfather was cut and bleeding heavily, Lewis said.

The Round Lake Beach Police Department responded around 11 p.m. and saw the victim had lost a considerable amount of blood due to a large cut on his stomach and several cuts on his left leg.

The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded and transported Sanchez’s stepfather to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he underwent emergency surgery, Lewis said.

Officers found the knife used in the fight and it appeared to have dry blood on it.

Sanchez’s attorney said his client acted in self-defense and claimed the victim carries multiple knives on him.

Lake County Judge Christopher Kennedy set Sanchez’s bond at $25,000.

Sanchez posted $2,500 cash and was released on Monday, jail records show.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 1.
