A 42-year-old man died at the hospital after he was shot multiple times outside of an apartment building in Zion Wednesday evening, authorities said.
A Zion Fire-Rescue Department ambulance was on the scene of a medical call around 8:25 p.m. Wednesday when they reported hearing active gunfire nearby.
Officers with the Zion Police Department reported finding a person shot moments later at the Hebron Townhouses in the 2700 block of Hebron Avenue.
Officers found the male victim in an alley with multiple gunshot wounds, according to fire department radio traffic.
Paramedics transported him by ambulance to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Hospital staff pronounced him dead in the emergency room and notified the Lake County Coroner’s Office around 9:18 p.m.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said the victim has been identified as David Garibay, 42, of Zion.
The coroner’s office performed an autopsy on Garibay on Thursday and confirmed he died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The Zion Police Department and Lake County Major Crime Task Force continue to investigate the homicide.
Zion police have not said whether any suspects are in custody yet.
