Catherine Coles, 31, of Winthrop Harbor.

A woman was arrested after she allegedly kicked a child, who uses a wheelchair and has cerebral palsy, leaving a visible bruise on him in Winthrop Harbor, prosecutors said.

Catherine Coles, 31, of Winthrop Harbor, was charged with domestic battery causing bodily harm and domestic battery physical contact.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Emma Smoler said officers with the Winthrop Harbor Police Department responded on November 7 to a call of a domestic incident.

The victim is a juvenile relative of Coles and is disabled, Smoler said, adding that the victim has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair.

Coles was playing a game with the victim when the two got into an argument.

Smoler said that Coles kicked the boy in his leg. An officer reported seeing a visible bruise on the hip of the victim.

Officers arrested Coles and transported her to the Lake County Jail.
