Prosecutors said a man robbed a Dollar General store in Waukegan at gunpoint and stole cash and an employee’s phone. Police tracked the phone to the man’s home and arrested him.
Calvin Hughes, 55, of Zion, was charged with aggravated robbery.
The incident occurred at Dollar General, 1501 Belvidere Road, at around 9 p.m. on November 13.
Lake County Assistant Stateโs Attorney Caitlin Valiulis said that while employees were closing the store, Hughes went to the cash register and pointed a gun at an employee.
Hughes allegedly took $1,000 to $2,000 from the register.
An employee called 911 and told the dispatcher they were being held at gunpoint, Valiulis said.
Hughes then allegedly robbed one of the employees’ of their phone and fled the scene.
Police were able to track and arrest Hughes at his home because the stolen phone had the Find My app, Valiulis said.
