Lake County Sheriff’s Canine Danno tracked for a half-mile and located a 45-year-old man who fled the scene after allegedly burglarizing a vehicle in Ingleside, authorities said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:50 p.m. Sunday to the 26700 block of West Nippersink Road in Ingleside for a report of a burglary in progress.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said the 911 caller reported someone was trying to break into his car.

The caller reported that the offender then fled on foot.

Deputies arrived and called Canine Danno and his handler Deputy Andrew Martini to the scene to assist.

The duo conducted a track through a forest preserve and a large marshy field before finding several burglary proceeds, Covelli said.

Danno continued tracking and located the offender, identified as Michael E. McCoskey, 45, of the 26700 block of Rollins Road in Ingleside.

Danno located McCoskey approximately a half-mile from the scene at 5 p.m. in the area of the 26800 block of Carol Lane in Ingleside.

Deputies arrested McCoskey and he was charged with burglary to motor vehicle.

He was found with additional burglary proceeds on him, Covelli said.

McCoskey was transported to the Lake County Jail where he was ordered held on a $250,000 bond.

Court records show McCoskey was charged in Lake County last month in a felony identity theft case and a possession of a stolen motor vehicle case.

McCoskey is a convicted felon after being convicted of unlawful restraint in a Lake County sex crime case, court records show.
