Authorities say a North Chicago man has died after he was critically wounded in a shooting outside of a strip mall in Waukegan that left two other men hospitalized Wednesday evening.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday to a strip mall parking lot in the 1300 block of North Green Bay Road in Waukegan for a possible shooting.
Officers arrived and found three people who were shot, Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip said.
Paramedics transported them to area hospitals.
The first victim – a North Chicago man in his 20s – was seriously injured, Florip said.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital Thursday morning.
The two other victims – a North Chicago man in his 30s and a Waukegan man in his 40s – have been stabilized.
All three men were in the parking lot when they were shot, Florip said.
The Waukegan Police Department Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene to investigate.
Investigators believe a suspect or suspects fired multiple rounds at the three men.
No one was shot inside any specific store, Florip said.
Fire department radio traffic indicated the victims were found near Moshis Tobacco & Vape.
Police are not releasing details on the number of shell casings recovered or the caliber of the gun used.
No one is in custody and the motive for the shooting is unknown, Florip said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office is in the process of scheduling an autopsy on the deceased victim.
