A bakery inside a strip mall in Lake Zurich is temporarily closed pending inspections after firefighters found a fire inside the business Friday afternoon.
The Lake Zurich Fire Department and Lake Zurich Police Department responded around 4:25 p.m. Friday to the 100 block of South Rand Road in Lake Zurich for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived to find a multi-unit retail strip mall with dark smoke coming from the roof area of one of the units, fire officials said.
Fire crews entered Kavkaz Bakery and found a fire contained to an oven.
A fire extinguisher was used to extinguish the fire and firefighters confirmed it had not extended to the structure.
The smoke was ventilated and the fire alarm system, which had been activated, was reset.
The Lake County Health Department and the Lake Zurich Building Department were both notified.
The business will remain closed until an inspection is completed, fire officials said.
Lake Zurich and Wauconda fire investigators have not determined a cause for the fire.
The fire department said businesses are encouraged to have their fire alarm and sprinkler system tested and maintained on a regular basis.
The Wauconda, Long Grove, Barrington, Mundelein, Barrington-Countryside and Buffalo Grove fire departments responded to the scene to assist.
The Barrington, Wheeling, Inverness, and Countryside fire departments covered calls in Lake Zurich.
