Two masked men robbed two other people at knifepoint in the parking lot of Gurnee Mills mall Wednesday evening, police said.

The robbery occurred around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday at Gurnee Mills, 6170 Grand Avenue.

Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that two people were in the parking lot when they were approached by a car.

Two men wearing masks exited the car and demanded money and personal belongings from the victims while displaying a knife.

The men stole the items and quickly fled, Gaylor said.

The victims later called the police to report the robbery. No suspects are in custody.

An alert was broadcasted to area police departments via the Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network (ISPERN).

One of the victims’ debit cards was reportedly used at the Citgo, located at 673 North Lewis Avenue in Waukegan, approximately 25 minutes after the robbery, the alert said.

Gurnee police did not provide further details as the incident remains under investigation.

Authorities announced earlier this month that an automated license plate reading camera was installed at the mall in September to “enhance security measures.”
