Detectives are investigating after more than 10 shots were fired into an occupied home in Beach Park early Tuesday morning, the sheriff’s office said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:35 a.m. Tuesday to the 12800 block of West Wakefield Drive in Beach Park for a shooting.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a home that was shot several times, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.

There were occupants inside the home at the time of the shooting. Nobody was struck by the gunfire.

Sheriff’s evidence technicians responded and collected evidence recovered at the scene.

Covelli said the shooting appeared to be targeted and not random based on the investigation so far.

Covelli told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that at least one offender was on foot when they approached the home and opened fire.
