Authorities have confirmed that two children and three adults were among the five found deceased inside a Buffalo Grove home where neighbors say a family lived.
The Buffalo Grove Police Department responded around 11:12 a.m. Wednesday to the 2800 block of Acacia Terrace in Buffalo Grove.
Police officials said officers received a call to check on the well-being of an adult female.
Officers arrived and were unable to make contact with anyone inside the home.
Officers decided to force entry to the residence and a sweep of the home was then conducted.
The officers found five deceased people inside, police officials said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed to Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the deceased included two children and three adults.
Autopsies are scheduled to be performed Thursday, the coroner’s office said.
A preliminary investigation indicates this was a “domestic-related incident” and there is believed to be no threat to the public, police officials said.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was requested to the scene and is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
The names of the deceased are being withheld pending autopsies by the coronerโs office and notification to the next of kin.
Neighbors told WGN News that a husband, wife and two elementary-aged children lived in the home.
“We would see the kids playing about,โ one neighbor said, WGN reported.
“They would have friends and family gatherings. Nothing too out of the ordinary so itโs a big shock to have all this occurring, especially during this time of the year,” the neighbor said.
Authorities say they are not able to confirm the reports that the incident may have been a murder-suicide situation.
