Two inmates, one of which is charged in a drug-induced homicide and the other in a domestic battery, are facing new charges after they allegedly got into a fight in the McHenry County Jail.

Wasfi M. Awwad, 29, of Lake in the Hills, and Alfredo Garcia-Castillo, 32, of Harvard, were both charged with one count of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.

Criminal complaints filed in McHenry County Circuit Court allege that Awwad and Garcia-Castillo engaged in a physical fight with each other on Tuesday.

Garcia-Castillo and Awwad both punched each other in the face using their fists, the complaints said.

The incident happened while the two were in custody at the McHenry County Jail in Woodstock.

Awwad has been held in the jail since February on numerous charges, including drug-induced homicide, a Class X felony.

A criminal complaint said Awwad delivered cocaine and fentanyl to Daniel Iles, 30, of McHenry, on September 22, 2021.

Garcia-Castillo has been held in the jail since October after being charged with domestic battery.

That incident involved Garcia-Castillo allegedly striking a woman in the back of the head and stomach, and then damaging her iPhone, according to a criminal complaint.

Awward is scheduled to appear in court again on January 11 while Garcia-Castillo is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday.
