Police are actively searching for a wanted fugitive who fled from them Thursday morning and is believed to be hiding in Three Oaks Recreation Area in Crystal Lake.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said they attempted to serve an arrest warrant around 10 a.m. Thursday in the area of Virginia Road and Teckler Street in Crystal Lake.
The suspect, Edgar Cardoso, 25, of Dwight, fled from sheriff’s deputies on foot.
The sheriff’s office and the Crystal Lake Police Department have been attempting to locate Cardoso since then.
Cardoso is believed to be hiding near the area of Three Oaks Recreation Area, 5517 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake.
He is believed to be unarmed and not a threat to the public, the sheriff’s office said.
Cardoso is described as being 5-foot-5, 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, and wearing all black clothing.
He is wanted on numerous warrants for probation violation, trespassing and drugs, according to the sheriff’s office.
Court records show Cardoso was arrested in May 2020 in connection with an armed robbery where the victim was stabbed.
Cardoso pleaded guilty to an amended charge of robbery, a Class 2 felony, in exchange for a slew of other charges being dismissed.
He was sentenced in August 2020 to two years of probation and drug and alcohol addiction treatment.
Prosecutors filed a petition to revoke his probation in August 2021 after Cardoso’s probation officer reported being unable to make contact with the man for almost two months.
A McHenry County judge has since issued an arrest warrant for him.
Anyone who spots Cardoso or knows his whereabouts is asked to call 911.
