The coroner’s office has identified a 54-year-old man who was killed Friday evening after he was struck by a pickup truck on Route 12 in Fox Lake.
An autopsy showed that Matthew Wood, 54, of Fox Lake, died as a result of blunt force injuries from a vehicle collision, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Fox Lake Police Department responded around 10:30 p.m. Friday to the area of Route 12 and Eagle Point Road for a report of a pedestrian-involved crash.
First responders arrived to find the pedestrian, identified as Wood, unconscious and not breathing.
Paramedics arrived and confirmed Wood was deceased at the scene, Fox Lake Deputy Police Chief Dawn Deservi told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
A preliminary investigation shows Wood was in the roadway on Route 12.
The Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling southbound and struck the man.
Deservi said it was unknown if Wood was trying to cross the street or not.
The driver of the Dodge remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County (MCAT) was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Both directions of Route 12 were shut down for two and a half hours during the investigation.
The driver of the vehicle, a 57-year-old man, was not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Deservi said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy on Wood on Monday.
An obituary said a memorial visitation and memorial service will be held Saturday at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations in Fox Lake.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fox Lake Police Department and MCAT.
