Two men were wounded in a shooting that left multiple cars shot up in Waukegan Monday evening, just minutes before a woman was fatally shot in another part of Waukegan.

The Waukegan Police Department responded around 7:28 p.m. Monday to the area of Cornelia Avenue and Drew Lane in Waukegan.

Waukegan Police Department Commander Brian Mullen told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that officers initially responded to the location for a call of shots fired with a large number of people outside.

Officers arrived to find several parked vehicles struck by gunfire. They were unable to locate any victims immediately.

A short time later, a man in his 30s showed up at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan with a gunshot wound, Mullen said.

A second male victim, who is in his 20s, was found shot in an apartment building in the same area.

He was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. Both men are expected to survive, Mullen said.

No one is in custody and the Waukegan Police Department Community Crimes Division is investigating.

Less than 10 minutes after the initial 911 call for the Cornelia Avenue shooting, officers responded at 7:37 p.m. to a 911 call for a woman found shot in a vehicle in the 1900 block of South Waukegan Road in Waukegan.

That location is several miles away from the first shooting, but it is unknown if the two shootings are connected.

The woman, who was in her mid-20s, was found unresponsive and paramedics confirmed she was deceased.

Investigators believe she was specifically targeted.

Anyone with information on either shooting is asked to call the Waukegan Police Department’s tip line at 847-360-9001.
