A driver was transported to the hospital after a car crashed head-on into a fire engine in Waukegan on Friday, fire officials said.
Waukegan Fire Department Battalion Chief Todd Zupec told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the incident involved Waukegan Fire Engine 4.
The fire engine was traveling northbound on Jackson Street near Jackson Court in Waukegan.
The crew was returning to their station non-emergent.
At the same time, a white Cadillac sedan was traveling southbound on Jackson Street.
Zupec said the Cadillac sedan lost control due to the slippery conditions and struck the front driver’s side of the engine.
The driver of the Cadillac was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crew of Engine 4 was uninjured.
Both vehicles sustained damage to the front end, leaving a large amount of debris covering the roadway.
“A reminder to everyone out there to please slow down during winter weather conditions,” Zupec said.
It was not immediately clear whether the police cited the driver of the sedan or not.
