The coroner has identified a 25-year-old mother who died after she was found shot inside a vehicle in front of a manufacturing plant in Waukegan Monday evening.
An autopsy showed that Shiyanna Hayes, 25, of Waukegan, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.
The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 7:37 p.m. Monday to the 1900 block of South Waukegan Road in Waukegan.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip said officers received a call for a subject slumped over in a vehicle.
Officers arrived and located Hayes, who had been shot.
Hayes was found in a vehicle off the shoulder in the northbound lanes of Waukegan Road, Florip said.
Officers performed CPR on the woman until paramedics arrived and Hayes was confirmed to be deceased.
The Waukegan Police Department Criminal Investigation Division (CID) was called to investigate.
Detectives are in the early stages of the investigation but believe Hayes was targeted.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy on the woman on Tuesday.
No one is in custody yet for the shooting, Florip said Tuesday.
Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area around 7:37 p.m. Monday and has relevant information to report it.
