A Beach Park man was arrested after police say he fired shots while following another person during an argument in Beach Park Friday evening.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:45 p.m. Friday to the 39000 block of North Sheridan Road in Beach Park for a report of shots fired.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Lindsay Hicks said the location was the American Inn Motel.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said dispatchers obtained a description of the suspect who fired the gun in a parking lot.
The responding deputies located a man, Jerardo Rios, 41, of the 9900 block of West Oak Forest Drive in Beach Park, who matched the description.
Covelli said a further investigation revealed Rios was in possession of a semi-automatic pistol.
Rios told deputies he was in an argument with a roommate.
Hicks said during a bond hearing that the argument with his roommate was over another woman.
Rios said his roommate left the residence on foot and he decided to follow him in his vehicle, Covelli said.
Covelli said Rios, while following his roommate, fired two rounds.
One of the rounds was fired into the air and another into the ground. Nobody was struck by the gunfire.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the charge of reckless discharge of a firearm.
Rios remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday.
