Three people were hospitalized after a crash in Hawthorn Woods Wednesday afternoon caused a box truck to roll over and an occupant in a sedan to be trapped, fire officials said.
The Countryside Fire Protection District, Mundelein Fire Department and Hawthorn Woods Police Department responded around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to Gilmer Road and Hawley Street in Hawthorn Woods for a vehicle crash.
Firefighters arrived and found a box truck on its roof after crashing with a sedan, Countryside Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Russ Bach said.
The driver of the box truck was able to exit the vehicle themselves. No one else was in the truck.
The driver of the sedan was trapped and firefighters had to extricate them, Bach said.
There was one other occupant in the sedan and medics transported three people to the hospital.
Fire officials were unable to provide details on their conditions.
Traffic was impacted for approximately two hours until around 2:30 p.m. when a tow truck uprighted the box truck and removed it from the scene.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
