Two teenagers were shot after gunmen opened fire on a residence, leaving dozens of spent shell casings littered on the street in Waukegan Thursday morning.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 12:30 a.m. Thursday to the 700 block of Center Street in Waukegan for a shooting.

Waukegan Police Department Commander Brian Mullen said officers arrived to find two victims with gunshot wounds.

Paramedics transported both victims to area hospitals for treatment.

Their conditions were not released but they are expected to survive.

Mullen said bothย victims are in their late teens and live in Waukegan.

The Waukegan Police Department Community Crimes Division responded to the scene to investigate due to the seriousness of the incident.

Detectives currently believe the two victims, who were inside a residence, were specifically targeted.

Mullen said police recovered spent shell casings from the scene but he was not releasing the caliber or amount.

A witness at the scene told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that dozens of spent shell casings were on the ground.

A resident in the area captured the shooting audio on their surveillance camera. At least two different guns could be heard firing, one of which was automatic.

No suspects are in custody and the case remains open and active.

Additional information regarding the suspects and their descriptions is not being released to maintain the integrity of the investigation, Mullen said.
