A Carpentersville man has been charged with fleeing the scene of a crash that left a 16-year-old boy with serious injuries in Algonquin, court records show.

Manuel A. Machado, 18, of Carpentersville, was charged with failure to report an accident involving injury, reckless driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper traffic lane usage.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said Machado was involved in a motor vehicle accident that occurred on November 27.

Machado had been driving a 2008 Dodge 1500 recklessly westbound in the parking lot at 100 South Randall Road in Algonquin, according to the complaint.

The Dodge also crossed a lane boundary unsafely, the complaint said. The crash left two people with injuries.

One of the victims was a 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in a vehicle.

The boy suffered severe head lacerations that required 15 staples, the complaint said.

The second victim, an adult male, suffered neck and back trauma.

Both victims were transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley for medical treatment.

Machado failed to stop and report the crash, the complaint said.

Charges were filed in McHenry County Circuit Court against Machado last weekend.

A judge has since issued an arrest warrant. Machado is not in custody, court records show.

The warrant carries a $50,000 bond, meaning Machado would need to post $5,000 cash in order to be released once he is taken into custody.
